Der Blumenmond, Vollmond-Trommeln im Mai

The flower moon, full moon drumming in May

May is the turning point in the year when temperatures rise. When a multitude of flowers are in full bloom and the world is bathed in a sea of color. This is why the full moon in May is also known as the flower full moon which means that summer is approaching. The Anishnaabe also called it the flower moon and the Cree Budding Moon. Also the planting moon (Dakota, Lakota) marks the time when the seeds for the coming growing season should be sown.

Animal activity also indicates the arrival of spring, as indicated by the Cree names egg-laying moon and frog moon and the Oglala term Moon of the ponies shedding their fur. All three names indicate that warmer weather is on the way! Due to the rising temperatures, the flower full moon is also a time of increased fertility.

Maifeuer

Pagans associate the Flower Full Moon with the element of fire and therefore often celebrate it with the lighting of bonfires and other magical fire rituals to bring prosperity - such as the ancient Gaelic festival Beltane, which begins on the eve of May 1st and marks the start of summer. In other parts of the world, the Flower Full Moon is better known as Vesak or Buddha Day, the most important festival for Buddhists around the world.

Now is a good time to nurture your garden and make the seeds you have planted blossom - both literally and figuratively. If you nurture your passions and desires and allow them to blossom, you will be rewarded with abundance in various forms in your life.

Full moon drumming as a ritual

Since 1997, we at feeltone have been drumming for 2.5 – 3 hours every month during the full moon. Either outside by the campfire or inside. Always in a circle and connected to the time quality of the moon.

For us, this is like meditation, which is also practiced worldwide. The purpose of both is similar: it's about pausing and stopping individuality for a moment. We create our realities through our thinking and get caught up in them all too quickly. That's why it's good to stop thinking from time to time. In this way, the brain waves experience new paths and solutions. Afterwards, we are refreshed, calmer and better connected.

Taking part is very simple

Take whatever instruments you can find (including your voice!) and simply make noises - either alone or with friends. It doesn't matter how well you play - all you need to do is create a groove and get into the rhythm of the world's heartbeat.

We are touched by the stories of many of you who have begun to participate in this monthly global community. Feel free to write a comment below this post about what your ritual was like.
